Del Mar California Horse Races Opening Day

It's official, opening day of the Del Mar race season in San Diego, California began on Wednesday, July 16th and like every year, a contest for the best hat was held. This year the grand prize winner was to take home a 42" Toshiba LCD TV and DVD/VCR. Not bad just for wearing a the best hat on opening day!

Race season lasts until September 3rd, but betting on your favorite horse isn't the only venue happening at this beautiful coastal racetrack location. Every Friday there is a free concert after the races with paid racetrack admission, which is only $6. This years bands include Gavin Rossdale from the band Bush, Gnarls Barkley and Pinback just to name a few. The concerts are standing are standing room only and almost never too overcrowded.

There are many other events happening at the Del Mar racetrack such as family weekend. Many of the race days are sponsored by local business and have free giveaways, but no matter which day you decide to attend, it's sure to be a good time had by all.
