Torrey Pines High School Theatre Department To Produce Argonautika

Over the next couple of weeks, students at Torrey Pines High School in Carmel Valley will really be putting on a show. The school's theatre department, the Torrey Pines Players, will be performing Argonautika beginning on November 13th. The show, written by Mary Zimmerman, is based off of the Greek tale of Jason and the Argonauts.

In the classic Greek tragedy, Jason leads his band of heroes, the Argonauts, through countless adventures in his quest to recover the sacred Golden Fleece.

Argonautika will run Wednesday to Saturday from November 13th – 16th and then the following week from the 20th – 23rd.

The Torrey Pines Players are guided by teacher and artistic director, Marinee Payne. Production of this performance will be headed up by student director, Cat Canedy. All aspects of the production, from set construction to lighting, will be managed entirely by the students.

Shows on Wednesday – Friday will begin at 7:30 p.m. with recommended arrival by 7:15 p.m. Saturday matinee showings will begin at 2:30 p.m. with recommended arrival by 2:15 p.m. Tickets cost $8 at the door, or $7 in advance and can be purchased through the Torrey Pines Players' website at www.tpplayers.com.

Other productions planned for this school year include Light in the Piazza, a musical centered on a wealthy southern woman's trip to Italy, and Cat Among the Pigeon.
