Escondido Real Estate

Escondido is a city of views, perched in the scenic foothills northeast of San Diego. This well-established community has been carefully modeled around rolling green space, crop fields, and classic California residential areas and commercial districts. Escondido's foothills setting also gives it one of the milder climates in San Diego County, with the Southern California sun just a little less intense here.

Escondido, which means "hidden" in Spanish, was settled by ranchers and farmers as part of Mexico in the early 1800's. The area's fertile soil and great year-round growing conditions made it a prime agricultural spot, home to a wide variety of fruit and nut crops. In 1895 local farming expanded considerably with the construction of a dam for a local reservoir and irrigation source, Lake Wohlford, which still exists today. Escondido's most popular agricultural exports have included muscat grapes, avocados, lemons, and walnuts.
