Located on the very outskirts of southeastern San Diego County, Boulevard offers a quaint and sometimes eccentric small-town charm to both tourists and residents. The surrounding high desert environment creates a rugged and somewhat hard-edged character for the community of over 300 residents. The city is approximately one hour away from the greater San Diego area via Interstate 8 and less than 50 minutes away from nearby El Centro in neighboring Imperial County. Once occupied by the Kumeyaay and Cocopah Native Americans, the city offers a deep, colorful history that is very much alive and well to this day. A number of settlers have made this location their home, including George McCain and George Allen Ruby.

What To Do Around Boulevard, CA

Although the community was quite popular during its heyday, the Interstate 8 bypass has cut down a lot of the traffic that is normally seen on Old Highway 80. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of attractions that people should be willing to go out of their way to see. These attractions include the Wisteria Candy Cottage and McCain Valley. The San Diego Astronomy Association's Tierra Del Sol observation site offers a variety of events for children and grownups alike, especially during the dark hours. Boulevard also features countless venues for rock climbing, biking, hiking and a variety of other activities.

The relatively small community of 300 residents features a variety of homes for sale. These homes often include single-family ranch-style homes and California bungalows. The attractive exteriors of these home fit in nicely with the high desert environment. Real estate shoppers can expect many of these homes to feature plenty of modern features, including solar panels and energy-efficient climate control systems. Many of these homes were also given thorough renovations within the past few months.

Many residents might enjoy the solitude and tranquility they receive when living in such a remote area, but others may be put off by the lack of major retail outlets and dining options. This leads many to commute back and forth between this small town in places like San Diego and El Centro.
