Descanso is a small community tucked away within the Laguna Mountains in east San Diego County. Located just an hour away from San Diego, the community offers secluded rural mountain living with excellent views and a generally quiet pace that serves as a contrast to the busier San Diego area. The community is also surrounded by Cleveland National Forest, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy protected wildlife scenery.
Descanso takes its namesake from the Spanish word for "place of rest." The area is famous for being one of the many areas threatened by the 2003 Cedar Fire.
Descanso features a wide variety of homes for sale, offering a wide array of architectural styles to suit just about any taste. Many of these homes have also seen recent renovations - granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and tastefully crafted cabinets are common among these renovated homes. Real estate values tend to vary greatly, depending largely on location, acreage and the size of the home itself. This means homebuyers can easily find an affordable home in the area. Most homes are actually located on U.S. Forest Service grounds, although the properties themselves are privately owned. The small, secluded mountain community makes an excellent getaway for those willing to commute between home and the greater San Diego area.
