La Mesa is a vibrant and healthy city that is located right in the heart of San Diego County, in between the city of El Cajon and the outskirts of San Diego. Known to many as the "Jewel of the Hills," approximately 50,000 residents call this city home. Newcomers are often intrigued by the rolling hills that dominate the landscape and the abundance of reasonably priced homes for sale.

As with many other locations throughout San Diego County, La Mesa derives its name from a Spanish term. This particular term translates into "the table" or "the plateau," giving plenty of reference to the geography of the area. Originally founded in 1869, the city eventually gained incorporation in 1912.

Buyers in search of prime real estate in La Mesa won't be disappointed. Homebuyers have their pick of a vast array of spacious and comfortable homes, with many featuring a classic blend of Spanish and Mediterranean architecture in vibrant colors that tastefully stand out from the landscape. Many of the homes for sale have been renovated in recent periods, featuring upgrades such as granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and brand-new flooring. Ranchers and California bungalows are common in the area, although a great many houses feature split-level and multi-story construction.
