    Spanish for "The Hill," the Del Cerro neighborhood of San Diego is an upscale area on the eastern side of the city. Del Cerro is near Lake Murray and San Diego State University. The Del Cerro Action Council is the volunteer neighborhood panel that helps oversee community events and gatherings. The average salary of Del Cerro households as of 2009 is $95,000, making it one of the wealthier communities in San Diego.

    The average age in Del Cerro is 42, making it an ideal community for raising children. Del Cerro schools are among the highest ranked in the city of San Diego as well as in the state of California. Approximately 64 percent of Del Cerro residents hold at least a bachelor's degree with approximately 36 percent holding graduate degrees. The majority of Del Cerro residents work at professional positions as diverse as management, high tech, medical and engineering.

    Most residents of Del Cerro choose to live in the community and commute to city-center jobs. Commute times vary depending on the time of day. From Del Cerro to the city center, commute times may be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 55 minutes. There is public transportation to connect all of Del Cerro with all points around San Diego.

    There are many townhome, condos and detached homes in the Del Cerro community. Many Del Cerro residents, over 90 percent have owned their homes since the area was built in the 1970's. Home buyers moving to the Del Cerro area will notice that home prices are slightly higher than the neighboring communities, however the homes are usually well worth it due to many having spectacular views and larger lot sizes.
