Kearny Mesa is a bustling community located approximately 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. This community is conveniently located south of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The area is home to a number of commercial businesses ranging from auto dealerships to shopping centers and dining establishments. True to its name, the area's topography is mostly flat.
The area gets its name from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar predecessor, Camp Kearny. The U.S. military base operated from 1917 until 1946. The city of San Diego acquired the area south of the installation, along with Montgomery Field, in 1948. This neighborhood was once considered a candidate as a replacement site for San Diego International Airport.
Although the area is largely dominated by a variety of businesses, there are still plenty of condominiums as well as single-family homes for sale. Most of the homes located in Kearny Mesa feature the typical California bungalow architecture that is prevalent throughout the region. Many of these homes feature modern, energy-efficient appliances as well as modern interior decor, new flooring and other features that should impress just about any home buyer looking to settle in this particular area.
